This new 500-pupil school on a greenfield site in Longwood, Co. Meath replaced the existing St. Fintina’s Post Primary School in the town. With a floor area of c.6,600sqm, this development includes a Special Needs Unit, a Sports Hall and general purpose area. The project also included all associated external and site works including a full size football pitch and hardcourts.
Structural steelwork was used to create open spaces for the Sports Hall and general purpose areas. The form of construction used was strip and pad foundations with blockwork walls, precast concrete floors and a lightweight roof consisting of roof purlins supporting insulated roof cladding and metal deck to flat roof areas.
The site layout was developed with input from DBFL’s Transportation Department. Because of the location of the school in a small town, to take account of a high level of traffic movements to the school at peak periods, a one-way system for vehicles accessing and exiting the school site was developed. This was provided with adequate bus and vehicle set down on the site.
