Airton Road Extension Scheme
DBFL is providing Design, Contract Administration, and Resident Engineering services during the construction phase of the Airton Road Extension Scheme for our client, South Dublin County Council. This project includes constructing a new link road from Belgard Road to Cookstown Industrial Estate in Tallaght. Murphy is the appointed contractor, and work on-site is progressing rapidly.
As part of our commitment to sustainable design and minimising the carbon footprint of construction activities, DBFL has collaborated with South Dublin County Council, Murphy Engineering, and their demolition sub-contractor, Tinnelly Group, to re-use crushed concrete from the demolition of an existing warehouse on-site. This warehouse demolition was necessary to facilitate the new road alignment, and the structure’s concrete frame provided suitable material for recycling.
The recycled aggregates were processed and tested on-site to meet TII standards. By using this approach, we have reduced an estimated 200 HGV trips and 9 tonnes of embodied carbon, calculated using the TII Carbon Tool. This reduction in embodied carbon, along with decreased HGV traffic, lessens the environmental impact of the project’s construction stage.
