Midleton to Ballinacurra Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme
DBFL recently got the opportunity to capture drone footage of a newly constructed section of shared pedestrian & cycle path along Bailick Road in Midleton, Co. Cork. This was the first phase delivered of the overall Midleton to Ballinacurra Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme working in collaboration with Cork County Council and Martin O’callaghan Ltd
The 4m wide, 1km long shared path links the Ballyannon Woods Walkway to Midleton Main Street whilst also providing a high quality connection for pedestrians and cyclists to local schools adjacent to the route. The project included the successful construction and implementation of a signalised shuttle system via the N25 underpass which helps prioritise pedestrian and cycle movements in the area over vehicles.
DBFL provided detailed design, procurement and construction stage services to Cork County Council on this project and are continuing to work on future phases of the project which will expand into a coherent active travel network for Midleton connecting to the wider cycle network for the Cork metropolitan area. This also includes the recently commenced phase which provides similar active travel facilities along the R630 from Rosehill to Lakeview Roundabout via Ballinacurra village. Construction is expected to be complete for this phase in 2026.
