Pledge to Net Zero – Thought Leadership

28 February 2025

As part of our commitment to the ACEI Pledge to Net Zero campaign, DBFL recently published our third Thought Leadership piece on our approach to design and implementation of Nature Based Drainage Solutions. Through this report, we share some of our knowledge and experience on Nature Based Drainage Solutions to aid the industry in the design and construction of sustainable engineering infrastructure, as part of the overarching aim of the Pledge to Net Zero.

With regard to our emissions, we are delighted to report that there is a considerable drop in our figures this year in comparison to the previous two years reporting with our current reporting figures for 2024 falling below our 2030 target of 163.3 tCo2e.

Our overall emissions in 2024 are 161 tCo2e.  Notably from our base year 2019 compared to our most recent year 2024, we have seen a drop of 47% in our carbon emissions of approximately 140 tCo2e.

We are particularly proud of our efforts in 2024 to encourage employees and Directors to think about their commutes. We implemented a ‘Car Free Week’ in our offices where all staff had to use alternative modes for their commute. This has resulted in more senior staff using public transport rather than driving and increasing their working from home days. This has resulted in a drop of almost 10 tCO2e.

We remain committed to further sustainable improvements across our business in 2025 and beyond, in support of our mission of Engineering Sustainable Futures.
