The project consists of the construction of a 3,700sqm two-storey extension to an existing post-primary school that houses a new staff room, 38 classrooms including 4 classrooms that can be opened up to form 2 large lecture rooms and a number of smaller learning support rooms. In addition to this extension the project involves the construction of a 700sqm standalone single storey structure that houses 5 classrooms for practical subjects. Also included in the works is the carrying out of remedial works and alterations to the existing school building.
The two-storey extension comprises traditional masonry construction with precast concrete floors at first floor level and structural steelwork where necessary to deal complexities in supporting the first floor walls and roof. The first floor overhangs the ground floor walls beneath requiring a colonnade of structural steel columns encased in concrete with steel beams supports the external walls and the first floor overhang. The roof will consist of insulated roof panels supported on steel purlins and masonry walls.
The project included the provision of a new entrance road network with a one-way loop arrangement and setdown/parking bays to the front of the school and a full size GAA and soccer pitch to the rear of the site.
